Local Shropshire Area

South Shropshire is an ideal location for anyone wanting a few unhurried days walking, cycling, sightseeing or simply relaxing and enjoying the spectacular scenery.

Goosefoot Barn Cottages are within easy reach of the Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge, Clee Hill, Mortimer Forest and the Welsh Border Hills. As well as Housman, Shropshire's other literary notables include Brother Cadfael, Malcolm Saville and Mary Webb. The small market towns of Ludlow, Church Stretton, Much Wenlock and Bishops Castle have much to offer historically and architecturally.

Ludlow, in particular, has golf courses, National Hunt racing, two Michelin starred restaurants and regular markets as well as the renowned Ludlow Festival, the Ludlow Marches Food and Drink festival and the Mediaeval Christmas Fayre.

Border Castles can be found in Stokesay, Clun, Powis and Ludlow, which also has the splendid St Laurences Parish Church - one of the finest in England. There are also several National Trust properties within easy visiting range.

Local attractions include the World Heritage Site Ironbridge Gorge Museums, Secret Hills Discovery Centre, Severn Valley Railway and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm as well as golf, horse racing, gliding, trout fishing and pony trekking.
